Synchronised swimmers from Droitwich and Worcester to perform 'biggest show' at Birmingham's NEC

A SYNCHORISED swimming group with members from Droitwich and Worcester will perform in front of 29,000 people over two days at a national event at Birmingham’s NEC.

The Synchro Stingrays, who perform in lakes and lidos across Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire, will put on four shows at the National Outdoor Expo.

The performance will be the Stingrays’ biggest ever so far since members came together two years ago at a synchro taster session. It was hosted by Swim with Ray and led by swim coach and choreographer Ray Farr.

As well as firm friendships being made and the giddy highs from their end of course show, the group has gone on to perform at events across the three counties.

Shows have included a full moon event at Broadfields in Cutnall Green, New Year’s Day Mayoral swim at Woodside Country Park in Ledbury and a charity event for Sue Ryder at Cheltenham Lido.

The Stingrays hail from all over the counties including Droitwich Spa, Worcester, Hereford and Ledbury.

Ray, who will also be running swimming sessions at the event as well as directing the Stingray’s shows, said: “We are so excited to be performing at the National Outdoor Expo.

“In just two years this group of women has gone from putting their toe in the water and trying a new activity, to performing for hundreds – and now thousands – of people.

“I have seen how the open water community has grown in recent years and how important it has been for people’s mental health and to combat social isolation.

“Confidence grows and new friendships are formed and I am really proud to play my part in that – and especially proud of the Stingrays.

“They have come out in all weathers and even in the dark to make sure they are show ready to entertain – and inspire – the crowds.”

The National Outdoor Expo runs from March 21 to 22 and the Stingrays will be performing on both days at 11am and 1pm.

The Synchro Stingrays will also appear at other events this year including a Kate Bush Day in Worcestershire and a Wedding Fayre in Herefordshire.
