Proposal to build 100 houses on Tagwell Road

Droitwich Editorial 28th Sep, 2022 Updated: 28th Sep, 2022   0

RESIDENTS are being urged to have their say on a proposal to build up to 100 houses at the top of Tagwell Road.

The proposal includes multiple one-bedroom and four-bedroom houses, along with new pedestrian and car access onto the site.

Concerns have been raised the existing infrastructure in Droitwich may not be able to cope with the extra properties if the application is passed.

One resident Karen Brettle said she needed to know more about infrastructure improvements.

She said she was unable to find a local dentist due to high demand and was still on waiting lists after eight months.

Instead she travels over half-an-hour back to see the dentist in the area she used to live in.

This point was also echoed by the Droitwich Community First Responders, who added that despite more houses being built being amazing news, an increase in healthcare services was needed to support the increase in people.

The land is included in the proposed South Worcestershire Development Plan (SWDP). As part of that process, landowners were invited to put forward their plots for sites where homes could be built on.

In 2020, a similar proposal was submitted for the same site, but it was refused.

Other residents have echoed these fears that Tagwell and neighbouring roads could not support an increase in cars.

Mr and Mrs Phillips said: “Tagwell Road is narrow, and the ‘improvements’ at the junction of Pulley Lane and the A38 have not proved to be successful with several accidents having already occurred there.”

A spokesperson for Countrywide Project Management, said: “This development will provide much-needed new housing, including affordable housing, for local families in Droitwich.

“Whilst we are aware of concerns about the impact on local roads and infrastructure, developers are required to mitigate these impacts.

“And, in light of Government cuts, they are often the only source of local investment.”

They added there would be financial contributions of over £1million to improve infrastructure, including towards school capacity and highway improvements.

“The site is also set to be allocated for housing by Wychavon as part of the plan review process.”

The consultation on the proposal ends today (Friday, September 2).
