Taking Worcester-based arts festival online is the Big Dream

Droitwich Editorial 13th Nov, 2020   0

ORGANISERS of a Worcester arts festival have revealed details of their third annual festival and their first winter festival.

With festive themed shows, storytelling sessions and Q&As, this year the Big Dreamers festival will be going digital to bring the fun and thrill of the arts into the homes of families during a time when theatre goers are usually able to enjoy family trips out.

The festival takes place over three weeks, from December 1 to December 20 with performances and storytelling sessions accessible via free online streams and available to families local to Worcester community centres.

This year the festival will be free, however, art lovers can support Big Dreamers by visiting their online shop or making a donation through their website.

In the lead up to the festival Big Dreamers are running a craft competition where participants can be in with a chance of winning a craft pack from the Worcester Resource Exchange, made up of sustainably sourced and recycled materials.

In order to take part, participants are asked to showcase their winter themed arts and crafts. From snowflakes garlands to pictures of a snowy day, everyone is encouraged to get out their paints, glue and scissors and get creative.

Entries can be submitted by tagging @bigdreamersfest on social media or by using the hashtag #BigDreamersFest to enter.

The competition starts on November 16 and entries close on December 15 at 11.59pm. Three winners will be chosen by judges and announced via social media on December 20.

2020 has been difficult for arts organisations across the country. Many organisations that are usually busy with live events have faced re-inventing the way they deliver shows or in some circumstances have cancelled shows.

Big Dreamers’ creative producer Heidi Murphy said: “We are beyond delighted to have received funding from Arts Council England. This year has been hard on everyone, and this funding will allow us to bring fantastic stories to families who may have had long standing festive traditions cancelled.

“Since its inception, Big Dreamers Festival has aimed to provide access to exciting and high quality children’s theatre to all families. This year, that mission feels more important than ever.”
