FIVE DROITWICH-based firefighters are taking on the Three Peaks Yacht Race in June to raise funds for the Firefighters Charity.
Phil, Sarah, Robin, Ben and John will be the first all-fire service team ever to undertake this challenge.
The three peaks yacht race is one of the UKs toughest endurance races and includes running marathons to (and then up) mountains, challenging participants to sail between these climbs.
Phil, Robin and John will be running the yacht, sailing approximately 390miles, on a complicated course, to get to each destination.
Once they land Ben and Sarah will be running over 50miles of mountains and cycling 40miles up Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis.
The ‘Sail Raisers and Trail Blazers’ will be one to watch – throughout the past 12 months they have spent their time working together throughout the pandemic.
They said on their fund-raising page: “We’ve seen how this has affected many firefighter’s mental health, as well as those who have suffered and now won’t be able to return to work, so this race is for them and the Firefighters Charity.”
The organisation not only supports firefighters, but also their families and watches of firefighters who have lost their lives.
The team added: “Their work is invaluable and any money we can raise by undertaking this mammoth challenge is a small token of our gratitude.”
The team will be self-funding the trip and trying to raise as much as possible for their chosen cause.
They said any donations people could give ‘would be incredible’.
