The Farm Shop in Ombersley reopens after devastating blaze

Droitwich Editorial 28th May, 2020   0

THE FARM Shop and nursery in Ombersley which was completely destroyed by fire has risen again thanks to the community pulling together.

The business on Holt Fleet Road reopened its doors on Tuesday after the blaze on Saturday afternoon which took eight fire engines several hours to extinguish.

The flames and smoke were so severe the main road had to be shut and did not reopen until Sunday morning.

Devastated owner Brett Wilkinson feared he would never be able to reopen the business he had spent years building up.

But, after a fund-raising page generated more than £2,000 in less than 24 hours and people donated tents and gazebos, it began trading again on Tuesday morning.

The GoFundMe page was started by Georga Duncan-Price.

Urging everyone to donate what they could – even if it was only £1 – she wrote on Facebook: “My friend’s life, business, everything is currently up in flames and I feel powerless, there’s nothing I can do to help him.”

She described Brett as a ‘pillar of the community’ and added many local residents would be devastated at the loss of their local farm shop.

Her views were echoed by hundreds of messages of support on The Farm Shop’s Facebook page.

Brett said: “I would like to thank everyone for their support it’s totally blown me away.

“It means so much to us all here.”
