The search is on for Droitwich heroines

Droitwich Editorial 24th Apr, 2014 Updated: 17th Oct, 2016   0

THE BROMSGROVE and Droitwich Standards have teamed up with the Aegon Classic – the Premier women’s tennis tournament which takes place in Birmingham in June – to find and reward Bromsgrove’s and Droitwich’s most inspirational women.

Do you know a woman who regularly goes above and beyond for others? Someone who has played a key role in shaping the local community? A friendly face that is always there to offer support? Or even a female who has faced adversity but still remains unbeatable? Well, we want to hear from you.

The search is on to find the female figures that make Bromsgrove and Droitwich great. Those that have inspired generations of people – young and old – to be bigger and better than they otherwise might have been. Up for grabs is an all-expenses paid, VIP trip to the final of the Aegon Classic (Sunday, June 15).

The very female nature of the Aegon Classic means the tournament brings to the Midlands, between June 9 and 15, the world’s top female players – including the likes of the UK’s own Laura Robson and Heather Watson.

All of these determined dames are the heroes of the women’s game today, but just like Bromsgrove’s and Droitwich’s local heroes, Laura and Heather would have had their own idols that they admired and who made them into the top-rated players that they are today.

If you know someone locally who deserves recognition and the chance to meet some of the world’s top tennis players at an all-expenses paid trip to the finals of the Aegon Classic (Sunday, June 15) then get in touch by emailing [email protected] or by post Ageon Classic, C/O Willoughby PR. 43, Calthorpe Road, Birmingham. B15 1TS. The exclusive prize includes transport to and from the Aegon Classic for the winner plus a friend, plus refreshments throughout the day as well as two of the best seats in the house to watch the day’s tennis.

The closing date for entries is 5pm on Sunday, May 25.

Previously won by Billie Jean King, Martina Navratilova and Maria Sharapova, the Aegon Classic is one of the world’s major grass court tournaments, taking place ahead of The Championships, Wimbledon.

Returning to Birmingham’s Edgbaston Priory Club for the 33rd year and now upgraded to a WTA Premier Level event, the Aegon Classic is now one of the top 21 tennis events in the world – offering sporting fans in the Midlands the chance to see some top-rate tennis on their home turf.

A tournament for all levels of tennis fans, tickets start from as little as £15 per person and are available at www.aegonclassic.co.uk/tickets.
