Three Droitwich parks maintain their prestigious Green Flag status

THREE PARKS in Droitwich have achieved Green Flag status, which lets residents know they are kept to a high standard.

This year, Vines Park, Lido Park and St Peter’s Fields in Droitwich have been given the prestigious award, meaning they have reached the highest standards of cleanliness.

Parks are first examined for their management plan, as well as eight criteria during a site visit, including community involvement and sustainability.

Lynn Stevens, Senior Parks and Open Spaces Officer at the Wychavon District, said “It’s a sign to those visiting that they can expect a good standard and it’s great recognition to those ground staff and greenspace officers who work so hard to maintain them.”

The award coincides with Love Parks Week, which ran from July 14 to 22, encouraging people to make an effort keep their local green spaces tidy, and tweet about the importance of the parks and why they love their local ones.

This helps raise awareness for the protection of parks, and the Keep Britain Tidy group, which runs the week long event, also award the Green Flag Awards, in collaboration with the Department for Communities and Local Government.

Keep Britain Tidy Chief Executive Allison Ogden-Newton said: “Our parks really are a national treasure and we need to support them if we want to protect them for future generations.”

The people of Droitwich have worked hard to keep these parks clean, and this award provides suitable evidence that their efforts are successful, and gives confidence for the future.
