MEMBERS of For Droitwich Spa, the town’s Civic Society and Save Our Green Open Spaces (SOGOS) will be invited to meet with town councillors to discuss the merits of a neighbourhood plan or a stronger town plan.
The project would be aimed at putting together a plan for how Droitwich should be in five, ten or 15 years time.
And, because it would be more statutorily recognised, it would be something that developers would have to take into account when they were preparing planning applications for the town.
Coun Richard Morris put forward a motion calling for a group to be set up to discuss the possibility of having a neighbourhood or town plan.
He said: “We should bring these groups together to see what is viable.
“We would be involving the people of the town and using their knowledge and ideas to look at ways we could help shape the future of the town.
“Who is to say where we would be if we had had a neighbourhood plan?
“Maybe a neighbourhood or a stronger town plan could highlight more the importance of having a brine baths and how development needs to be more appropriate.”
His motion was backed by his fellow councillors.
As well as the merits of having a neighbourhood plan or stronger town plan, the group would also look into costs, timescales of setting one up, timescales for achievements, the resources needed to complete it, its effect, scope and the impact on the South Worcestershire Development Plan.
