CHURCHES across Droitwich in need of roof repairs have just a week left to apply for funds from the £15million National Heritage Memorial Fund.
The scheme can provide between £10,000 and £100,000 for maintenance of roofs and guttering on vulnerable listed church buildings but applications need to be in by next Friday (January 30).
Spa MP Sir Peter Luff said: “In Mid Worcestershire we have some of the most beautiful churches in England but, sadly, many of these will be in urgent need of repair – deterioration of roofs, gutters or high-level stonework are the most common cause of problems.
“That is why I am delighted with this new fund, announced by the Chancellor, as it offers a real solution for many of the problems our church buildings are facing.
“It is essential that we conserve these places of worship – church buildings can be hubs of wider community activity and provide a symbol of local identity.
“I do hope that parishes in need will take up this opportunity.”
