Time running out to apply for energy bill support

Droitwich Editorial 24th May, 2023   0

RESIDENTS who do not pay their fuel bills directly to a supplier or those who do not use the mains network to heat and power their homes are being warned they are running out of time to apply for support with their energy bills.

Wychavon District Council is warning residents that the deadline for applications to the government’s Energy Bill Support Scheme (EBSS) and Alternative Fuels Payment (AFP) is May 31.

While the EBSS provides an automatic £400 discount to anyone who pays their bills directly to an energy supplier, those who pay their bill through a third party such as those in park homes, care homes or with permanent moorings must apply.

The AFP provides an automatic £200 discount to anyone using tank or bottle gas, liquid petroleum gas, oil, wood or solid fuel to most qualifying homes however those who do not have a direct contract with an energy supplier or those who live off the main electricity and gas grid must apply.

Around 930 households have already received support but several hundred have yet to apply and could miss out.

Jayne Pickering, deputy chief executive for Wychavon District Council, said: “This is much-needed support for our residents at a time when the cost of living is still rising.

“If people think they may qualify for these payments, please use the links from our website to find out more information and how to apply.”
