AN OPTICIANS in St Andrews Square donated over a tonne of food for the Droitwich Spa Foodbank thanks to an advent calendar festive collection drive.

Droitwich Specsacers attempted to fill a trolley per day between December 1 and Christmas Eve.

The campaign raised 394kg of food, adding to the 700kg that was collected over October and November.

Donations have been distributed to hundreds of families living in the area.

Specsavers Store Director, Emma Singh said he was thrilled to have donated so much to help those who needed it.

“The local community is always so supportive when we ask for their help and their generosity has enabled us to reach such a large amount.”

Foodbank donations secretary Doreen Lambden added: “Specsavers’ contribution and help with raising awareness about the foodbank is hugely appreciated.”

Thanks to Specsavers efforts, more than 1,550 local people were fed from April to December.
