TRIBUTES have been paid to the chairman of Droitwich’s Royal British Legion who has died suddenly at the age of 61.

Stephen Moore was originally from Birmingham but made Droitwich his home when he moved to the Spa 35 years ago.

He was married to his wife Marie for more than 40 years, had a son and daughter and three grandchildren.

He served as a member of the town’s RBL for more than 30 years and was chairman for the last three.

Stephen also worked for more than 30 years for keeping the streets of Droitwich clean – first for Wychavon District Council and then for contractor FCC Environment on behalf of the authority.

In his leisure time he enjoyed socialising with his friends.

Adrian Wright, from Droitwich Royal British Legion, said: “He was always thinking about others and promoting the Legion, hence the saying ‘service not self’.

“He will be greatly missed by us all and our condolences go to his wife and family.

“RIP big man – we all miss you.”

Son Stephen said: “He absolutely adored his grandchildren and he was a real family and friends man.

“His close friends were just like an extended family to him.”

Phil Merrick, Wychavon District Council’s head of economy and communities, said: “We’re all saddened to hear of Stephen’s passing.

“He dedicated more than 30 years of his life to serving the public and will be sadly missed by his colleagues.

“Our thoughts are with his family at this time.”

When the story went on our website on Wednesday (November 30), tributes were also paid to him via our social media pages.

Rob Guest said: “He did so much. Lots of memories with this man. RIP ‘Uncle’ Steve.”

And Lynn Read wrote: “Very sad news, he was a really nice bloke.”

Stephen is survived by his wife, son, daughter Sarah, daughter-in-law Lisa and four grandchildren.
