TRIBUTES have been paid to a much-loved Droitwich community champion who passed away unexpectedly.
Keith Westray, who was 67, was well-known in the town for his work with For Droitwich Spa and for playing the part of Spa Man – the town’s own superhero.
Keith was one of the founder members of For Droitwich Spa and, as well as running his own business Asset Machinery, he also ran the town’s previous business forum and kept the droitwichspa.com website updated with events and information.
John Dudley from For Droitwich Spa, described Keith as a ‘tremendous guy for whom nothing was too much trouble’.
“He did a lot for the town which people did not see and then there was his visual presence as Spa Man.
“Keith took on the character mainly for the kids, but I think he also did it for the adults and himself as well – he absolutely loved it.
“Keith was always full of life and always did what he could for the town and its people.
“His death was a big shock to us all. He was a big guy with a big heart and a big voice when he performed with the Voices Unlimited choir.”
Ria Keen, Voices Unlimited’s musical director, said: “Keith was one of those people who represented the very heart and soul of Voices Unlimited.
“Although he had left a while back due to work pressures, his enthusiasm and support for the group was unwavering, and while with us he always sang with every ounce of his being.
“He was a supremely popular member and he will be very much missed.”
Keith is survived by his partner Diane who he met through the Worcester-based Voices Unlimited.
“His love for music and performance for the enjoyment of others made each and everyone feel incredibly special.
“My very own superhero Spa Man will be in my heart forever.”
Keith’s funeral will take place at Worcester Crematorium at 12.15pm on March 29.
