Two Droitwich 'best friends' to take on London Marathon for sexual violence charities

TWO Droitwich ‘best friends’ with the same surname are taking on the London Marathon this year in aid of two West Midlands sexual violence charities.

Kerrie and Becca Best, have started training for the marathon in November to raise funds for the Children and Young People’s Services at West Mercia Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Centre (WMRSASC) and Coventry Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre (CRASAC).

The duo, who have been friends since their sons met at nursery, started running together two years ago and completed the Worcester Half Marathon in 2017.

They currently train three times a week with a mixture of aqua aerobics, gym and running, with an additional long run every weekend, where to date they have surpassed 16.5 miles.

WMRSASC provides free, confidential and non-judgemental support to anyone aged five and over within Worcestershire and Herefordshire.

As a project worker and counsellor at the centre Kerrie said: “Seeing young children come across our doors at WMRSASC is the reason I am taking on the challenge.

“They shouldn’t have to come, however, as long as they do need support it should be available, no waiting list, for as long as it takes.”

As part of the fund-raising, there will be an online auction of a necklace donated by Anja Potze which will begin on February 25 and end on March 4.

Visit WMRSASC Facebook page at www.facebook.com/wmrsasc for more information about the auction and visit uk.virginmoneygiving.com/Team/Besties4 to donate.
