TWO PUBLIC toilets in Droitwich have won prestigious platinum accolades in the 2017 Loo of the Year Awards.

Run by the British Toilet Association, the awards rank loos provided by different organisations on a range of factors, which together make them clean, safe and hygienic.

Councils, hotels, shopping centres and more take part in the competition. Inspectors pay a visit to each toilet before issuing a bronze, silver, gold or platinum rating.

There were 11 public loos in Wychavon District which scooped the top honour, including the ones in St Andrews Square and the ones at the Lido Park.

Wychavon representatives will officially be presented with the awards at a ceremony in December where they will also find out their place in the national league table and if the authority have been shortlisted for any national specialist category awards.

Coun Emma Stokes, executive board member for environment on Wychavon District Council, said: “When people spend a penny in Wychavon they know they are getting much more than a bog standard experience.

“Huge thanks must go to our cleaning contractor Mitie for their hard work in keeping our toilets in top condition.”

Wychavon is currently investing £50,000 in refurbishing its public toilets including new sinks and separate hand dryers. It is also introducing adult changing facilities in St Andrews Precinct, Droitwich.

Work is expected to be complete by next spring.
