THESE are the shocking pictures of the two crashes which happened this evening (Wednesday) within 150 yards of each other on a busy Droitwich road.

The incidents, at 5pm, left two people trapped and involved five vehicles in total, including one which was left with its engine in the footwell and one which ended up on its side.

One of the cars was involved in both collisions – one of them on the opposite side of the carriageway.

Four fire crews – two from Droitwich and two from Worcester – were sent to the scene, along with the police, two ambulances, a rapid response paramedic, a paramedic area support officer, a paramedic officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said three of the vehicles sustained substantial damage.

“Crews were told that one of the cars completely rolled over during the first crash before coming to rest on its side.

“The driver, a man in his 20s, was trapped as a result.”

Firefighters and ambulance crews worked together to free him, ensuring he did not move during the process because of the nature of his injuries. He was then immobilised, using a neck collar and a spinal board, and was treated for injuries to his wrist, leg and back before being taken to Worcester Royal Hospital by land ambulance.

The driver of that car which had the engine in the footwell, a man thought to be in his 30s, was believed to have been knocked out in the incident. He was treated for a reduced level of consciousness, a head injury and a suspected dislocated ankle.

The West Midlands Ambulance spokesperson added: “Following further assessment from a doctor at the scene, he was then transported to Worcester Royal by land ambulance.”

The driver involved in both of the crashes was assessed and discharged at the scene.

In both crashes a a third car suffered minor damage but neither driver required attention from ambulance staff.

The main A38 was closed and diversions put in place, following the crashes.
