TWO people had to be cut free from a vehicle after a serious crash in Droitwich on Saturday evening.

A car had crashed and left the carriageway around 6pm on the A38 Roman Way at the junction of Ombersley Way.

Fire crews used cutting equipment to get the man and woman – both in their 20s – out of the car.

They were then winched free from the vehicle and were treated by paramedics.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said two ambulances, two paramedic officers, a Critical Care Car from Midland Air Ambulance and the West Midlands CARE Team attended the scene.

Two patients – a woman who was driving the car and the man, a passenger – were assessed by ambulance staff who found they had sustained serious injuries.

They received advanced trauma care at the scene which continued en route to Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital where they were taken for further treatment.

Police closed the carriageway while the emergency services dealt with the incident.

Firefighters made the vehicle safe and left the scene at 7.37pm.
