THREE swans covered in engine oil have been rescued from a canal in Droitwich Spa.
Following numerous phone calls from concerned residents on Wednesday afternoon, Wychbold Swan Rescue found two of the swans on Vines Lane and the other on a nearby stream.
The swans were treated with medicine administered through a tube to absorb the oil as well as antibiotics to reduce the risk of enteritis.
Jan Harrigan, from the rescue centre, said: “We have washed them but they are still very dirty.
“We will have to wait a while before we wash them again as it upsets them so much.
“I think it is engine oil they are covered with as it is very black, sludgey and difficult to get out.
“This is a very costly procedure and very costly for the swans as they have to be here for a few months.”
