UK's first meeting centre for dementia sufferers opens in Droitwich

THE UK’S first Meeting Centre designed to help dementia suffers and their loved ones opened its doors in Droitwich on Wednesday (September 23).

The move is part of a scheme designed to help break down the stigma around the condition, reduce social isolation and promote more inclusive services for people affected by the disease.

A dedicated team of staff and volunteers will provide the support programme at the Droitwich Spa Community Hall, off Heritage Way, every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday between 10am and 4pm.

Those who attend will be able to take part in recreational and social activities, such as singing, shopping, reminiscence, music, dance, sporting groups, creativity sessions and outings.

Meeting centres have been successful in the Netherlands for over a decade – they provide a place for people to be supported while they understand and adapt to living with dementia.

Visit www.eventbrite.co.uk for more or to register their attendance.
