Uncertainty for high street as Droitwich bank branch set for closure

Droitwich Editorial 26th Jan, 2024   0

IN ANOTHER blow to Droitwich town centre a major bank has announced the closure of one of its branches.

Lloyds Bank’s Victoria Square branch is set to close on November 14, 2024.

In an ever more digitized world, banking in person is becoming less and less common for high street branches and according to Lloyd’s research, its no different for them.

In branch and cash-point transactions have reduced by half or more over the last five years for both personal and business Lloyds customers. With nearly 80 per cent having used other branches, online banking or phone banking.

A spokesperson for Lloyds Bank said: “The world is becoming more digital than ever before and more of our customers are doing their everyday banking online.

“With more customers banking digitally, we’ve seen a fall in branch visits. Because of this, we’ve decided to close this branch.”

Lloyds aren’t the only bank to shut up shop on Droitwich’s high street. HSBC recently announced its Droitwich branch will be closing for good in July.

The only remaining bank branch on the high street will be Santander who closed six of their branches in 2023.

Lloyds Bank customers in Droitwich are advised to visit branches in Bromsgrove and Worcester once their branch closes in November, 2024. Both alternatives are at least six miles from Droitwich.
