POLICE have urged anyone who saw the crash on the M5 this morning to contact them.

The collision – involving a lorry, a car and a pedestrian – happened when a black BMW struck the side of the bridge at Junction 4 on the nearside of the carriageway and stopped in the first lane.

It is understood the driver got out of his car and was then hit by a white lorry in the second lane.

Two ambulances, a paramedic officer, the Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham and the Midlands Air Ambulance Critical Care Car attended.

The pedestrian received treatment at the scene before being taken by ambulance to Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

The air ambulance crew travelled on the ambulance to continue treatment en-route to hospital but his injuries are now not thought to be life-threatening.

The lorry driver, a man, was assessed and discharged at the scene.

The southbound carriageway is currently closed and police, the fire service and the ambulance service are at the scene.

Diversions are in place and all traffic is being diverted off at Junction 4 and is able to rejoin the motorway on the southbound sliproad.

The southbound carriageway was closed while the emergency services dealt with the incident and a short diversion using the slip roads was put in place. It has since reopened.

West Mercia Police are investigating the incident.

PC Simon Carpenter said: “We’d like to thank the witnesses we’ve already spoken to but if there is anyone else who saw the incident or has dash-cam footage we’d ask them to contact us.”

Any witnesses to the collision who have not yet spoken to officers or anyone with dash-cam footage should visit westmercia.police.uk and submit the details or call 101 quoting incident 00117i of 12 January.
