Use your vote pleas Droitwich Youth Council

Droitwich Editorial 9th Apr, 2015 Updated: 17th Oct, 2016   0

DROITWICH Spa Youth Council is encouraging young people to vote after research showed the number of 18 to 24-year-olds voting in general elections was on the decline.

In the last election less than half of that age group visited polling stations and the proportion that voted has fallen from 76 per cent in 1964 to 38 per cent in 2005.

Konnor Gethins, spokesperson for Droitwich Spa Youth Council, said: “Youth Council members and I cannot understand why young people who can vote now don’t.”

For the first time in the run up to the general election, people are able to use their smartphones to register to vote at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote with applications required by midnight on April 20.

Students away from home at university can apply for a postal vote in writing by 5pm on April 21.
