VOLUNTEERS are being sought to help with giving the grounds of Droitwich churches a ‘big clear up’.
A whole range of jobs are available to suit all tastes, ages and abilities and there will be refreshments and a great deal of fun and laughter along the way.
The first takes place between 2pm and 4.30pm on Thursday (November 12) at St Nicholas Church.
Then from 10am to 12.30pm on November 27, volunteers will be targeting St Augustines Church in Dodderhill.
The programme will conclude on December 5, when St Peter’s Church grounds will be cleared between 10am and 12.30pm.
Each church is very special to the community.
St Nicholas’ is a Victorian church designed by local architect John Smith and built by local subscription to serve the expanding community of what was then known as Newtown.
St Augustine’s, Dodderhill, is a medieval church replacing an earlier Saxon one, partly destroyed in the Civil War and rebuilt with the large tower that is now a Droitwich landmark. Originally it served a huge parish including Elmbridge and Wychbold.
And St Peter’s is a medieval church which originally served a community separate from the town but is now very much part of it. The earliest parts are Norman and the most unusual feature is the timber framed clerestory and roof of the nave.
Richard Rose, warden at St Augustine’s, said “I hope people will come to help us”
Volunteers should wear suitable clothing and come along to the churches on the dates listed.
