THERE were tears of joy and relief for hundreds of pupils across Bromsgrove yesterday (August 12) as students collected their A-Level results following a tense summer of waiting.

Many teenagers flocked to schools and colleges in the area to learn whether their university dreams were to become a reality.

Waseley Hills High School staff enjoyed another great set of results with a number of pupils achieving top grades.

Alan Roll, headteacher, said the results are thoroughly deserved by his students.

Staff at North Bromsgrove High School also have cause for celebration as all of their students who applied have gained undergraduate places at UK universities.

David Hadley-Pryce, headteacher, said: “Today is worthy reward for the commitment and enthusiasm our students have shown.”

It was another success story at Bromsgrove School, which has maintained its impressive average of recent years, with pupils achieving 85 per cent of grades A* to B.

Of its 174 A-Level students, ten scooped more than five As, 25 gained more than four As and a third of students scored at least three As.

Star pupil Matthew Lynch gained five A* grades and will now go to the University of Oxford to study material sciences alongside Adam Grenfell who will study physics.

Staff at South Bromsgrove High continued their success with 58 per cent of students achieving the coveted A*- to B grades and an overall pass rate, once again, of more than 99 per more.

Pupil James Moloney bagged three A*s in maths, further maths, chemistry.

Droitwich Spa High School celebrated a fantastic year by helping almost every student land a place at university, job or apprenticeship.

Top performer Charlie Arrowsmith  achieved four A*s and will travel to Lady Margaret College, Oxford to study physics.
