RESIDENTS have been warned to be on their guard after a Droitwich woman had cash fraudulently taken from her account during a phone and computer scam.
The woman, who lives in Wharfedale Crescent, received a call between 10am and 4pm on Wednesday (November 9) from someone claiming to be from BT Internet who told her they would speed up her web connection.
They asked her to download software onto her laptop and keep her phoneline open.
When it had been open for six-and-a-half hours, the woman became suspicious, closed the laptop and then hung up the phone.
The following day the she checked her account and found money had been fraudulently withdrawn.
Anyone who has had similar calls should call police on 101 or Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040.
