Warning to drivers after spate of thefts from vehicles in Droitwich in the last few days

DRIVERS in Droitwich and the surrounding villages are being warned to be on their guard after a spate of thefts from vehicles in the last few days.

From midday on January 15 to 8am on January 18, two pairs of Oakley prescription sunglasses and £15 in change were taken from a car as it was parked in Main Road, Ombersley.

Thieves struck in Uphampton Lane, Ombersley, and took two Michael Kors handbags and matching purses, one gold and one white, a bright pink Kipling bag, matching purse and assortment of lipsticks. That happened between 6pm and 8.45pm on January 18.

Then overnight between Sunday and Monday thieves broke into a vehicle in Droitwich Road, Fernhill Heath, stealing tools and batteries.

A quantity of power tools were taken from a vehicle which was broken into while it was parked in Barns Croft Way, Droitwich, between 1pm and 7pm on Sunday.

Sgt Sarah Kent from Droitwich Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) said the Ombersley and Fernhill Heath thefts were being linked although those carrying out the tool thefts had a different motive and opportunity.

She told The Standard a lot of the time it was opportunists trying door handles to see if they could gain access to vehicles.

“People’s chances of becoming a victim are reduced if valuables are removed and the vehicles are locked.”

She said previously similar thefts had seen golf clubs, hairdressing equipment and other items taken because they had been left in vehicles.

She said the officers who were out on patrol in the area had been made aware of what was happening and were on the lookout for the thieves but the public’s help was needed to catch the culprits.

She urged anyone who saw anything suspicious and people trying the handles on cars to call 999 so the thieves could be caught in the act.
