A SERIES of projects aimed at improving communities across Droitwich have been hailed a success.
Fortis Living, which provides more than 15,000 homes throughout Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire, ran its annual Communities Week from September 25 to 29.
As part of the campaign, the housing association helped food banks, held charity pop-up shops, took part in litter picks and more.
The ‘Feed the Foodbanks’ project saw a total of 1,842 items plus six large boxes of toothpaste and mouthwashes donated to various foodbanks across the county, including Droitwich.
The items were donated by Fortis Living staff and partners including Anthony Collins Solicitors, Hollymount School, Oasis Academy, Freedom Leisure and DJD Architects.
Pop-up shops were held in Droitwich, Worceste, Ledbury and Malvern, which raised more than £860.
Each shop sold pre-loved items including adults’ and children’s shoes and clothes, toys, bric-a-brac and household items, all at 50 pence.
Fortis Living also gave the Westlands a ‘mini makeover’ where a 72-strong team painted 1,057 bollards on the estate.
The group included Fortis staff and partners from Wychavon District Council, the Princes Trust Local Policing Team and Anthony Collins Solicitors,
A litter pick was also carried out with Wychavon District Council and schoolchildren from Westlands First School.
Gemma Boulton, Fortis Living’s communities and co-regulation manager, said: “This is the fourth year running we have delivered our Communities Week and we can safely say that it was our best one yet.
“We have been overwhelmed by the sense of community spirit we have encountered.
“As we have no budget for the week, it really serves as a fantastic example of people coming together to serve and improve their communities.”
