WEST MIDLANDS Ambulance Service will strengthen its specialised team which offers paramedic care to patients in hazardous environments, writes Neil Gordon.
The Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) attends patients provides paramedic care to patients when incidents happen at height, in collapsed structures or in contaminated areas.
The Trust is presently required to have 42 HART paramedics which breaks down into seven teams of six. However the Trust is investing £400,000 to employ an extra seven HART paramedics that will provide seven teams of seven with the additional seventh member also enabling the team to provide a more robust response to HART incidents including bariatric incidents. Bariatrics are to do with the causes, prevention, and treatment of obesity.
HART and Special Operations Manager for West Midlands Ambulance Service James Price said: “Not only does this investment give us increased resilience to jobs that HART attend, it also develops the skillset of the additional seven members.
“By increasing the number of HART paramedics within the West Midlands we are further enhancing the service patients receive in their hour of need.”
