WESTACRE Middle School pupils set off at 6.30am to journey down to Westminster to find out more about how the country is run.
The trip was organised by MP Nigel Huddleston who visited the school earlier this year.
As they arrived they went to the grand hall which has been graced in the past by HM The Queen, Nelson Mandela and Barack Obama.
There they met their guide who escorted them through the many corridors and rooms of the Palace of Westminster including the House of Commons and the House of Lords.
The children were able to sit on the benches of the houses and stood at the dispatch box before being joined by Mr Huddleston who shed some light on a typical day in Parliament.
A school spokesperson said: “We would like to thank Mr Huddleston for helping to arrange such a memorable experience for the children.”
Annie Hughes from year seven said: “It was an amazing experience and I learnt a lot about how Parliament works – I never knew The Queen wasn’t allowed to go in The House of Commons.”
Deputy headteacher Mrs Doolin added: “It was a fantastic day and all the children learnt so much about how our country is governed.
“Many of the children had prepared questions to ask Mr Huddleston and I think we may have a few budding politicians in school.”
