YOUNGSTERS from Westacre Middle School have been testing out ‘rocket science’ of a different kind.

The pupils were among thousands from around the country to receive 100 rocket salad seeds which have spent six months on the International Space Station in the care of astronaut Tim Peake.

Now Westacre’s eco-committee have planted theirs – alongside rocket seeds that have not been in space – to compare the differences in their growth.

Assistant headteacher Paul Barber said: “It is an incredibly exciting opportunity for our pupils to be involved with such an international investigation.

“The Children involved have really been inspired to and should be congratulated on their efforts so far.

“As a school, we are keen to stress the importance of of all areas of the curriculum, and, in this particular area, are proud of the work being done in our school allotment area, that is being used in science lessons at the moment.”

Once the seeds have grown, data relating to their growth will be entered into a huge nationwide database.
