Wheels 2 Rails - New free cycling courses to be held in Droitwich next month

DROITWICH residents can participate in a fun and free cycling event at Westlands Community Centre next month, writes Holly Martin.

Wheels 2 Rails runs between 10am and 3.30pm on February 26, encouraging safer cycling for adults and children.

The event features two-hour family cycle training sessions led by a qualified Bikeability instructor, starting at 10am and 1pm, designed to build cycling confidence in different situations, such as heading out on local roads or to the railway station.

Wheels 2 Rails includes safety drop-in sessions and the chance for people to get their bikes security marked, so they can be traced if stolen.

Cyclists can also test their pedal power, and earn a tasty reward, on the GreenApe smoothie bike.

Wychavon District Council has joined forces with the Worcestershire Community Rail Partnership and Community  Rail Network to offer the event, helped by the Integrated Sustainable Transport in Community Rail Fund.

Coun Tony Rowley, Wychavon District Council’s Executive Board Member for Climate Change, Environmental Policy and Regulatory Services, said: “We are excited to see the return of Wheels 2 Rails, which helps cyclists to build their confidence with the support of a qualified instructor.”

Colin Major, Vice-Chair of Worcestershire Community Rail Partnership, added: “We are proud to support this event and see our local railway stations continue to provide a safe venue for families to enjoy cycling.”

Places are limited, so people need to visit wheels_to_rail_droitwich.eventbrite.co.uk to pre-book.
