PUPILS from Witton Middle School took part in a writing fortnight based on BBC Radio 2’s 500 words story competition.
Witton’s own version of the contest was launched in a special assembly before the children had the opportunity to learn how to craft a short story.
There was a real buzz among the children and staff as they immersed themselves in creativity and lots of certificates were awarded by teachers to recognise the effort and achievement of pupils.
There were also gold, silver and bronze winners from each class and each year group then decided on overall ‘medal placings’.
A final showcase assembly on March 6 concluded the competition for Witton when the year group and overall winners were announced.
The tree gold-winning stories were performed by a member of the Norbury Theatre in Droitwich and English teachers from Droitwich Spa High School.
The audio recordings were then used in the final assembly to reveal the gold winners for years five, six and seven.
Jessica Roberts, the school’s English curriculum leader said: “Our pupils and staff thoroughly enjoyed taking part in this competition and we hope to repeat it next year.”
