A WOMAN in her 80s had to be cut from her car and was airlifted to hospital after a crash in Corbett Avenue in Droitwich this afternoon (Friday).

The car collided with a tree before 12.45pm.

A West Midlands Ambulance spokesperson said a paramedic in a rapid response vehicle, a paramedic area support officer in a rapid response vehicle and two ambulance crews attended.

The Midlands Air Ambulance was sent for and was forced to land in the grounds of the town’s Chateau Impney Hotel as it was the closest place which had enough space to accommodate it.

The spokesperson added the woman, who was suffering back pain, was immobilised, before being driven by ambulance to the helicopter.

She was then flown to Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

“Her husband who was a passenger in the car had no visible injuries, but was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital as a precaution,” added the spokesperson.
