CELEBRATIONS for the 40th anniversary of Worcester’s St Richard’s Hospice raised £40,000 for the charity.

The hospice’s Grand Gala Dinner took place in the Nave at Worcester Cathedral and saw 207 guests attend on the night.

The glittering event was hosted by Louise Hewett, a Patron of St Richard’s, who also used the occasion to mark the end of her tenure as High Sheriff of Worcestershire.

BBC Midlands Today’s Dan Pallett compèred the evening, while Philip Serrell, hospice Patron, held the auction, and music was provided by Toscana Strings.

The hospice was first opened by founder Dr Jenny Bulman in 1984 after initially being thought up around a kitchen table in Droitwich.

Since then, it has received more than 73,000 referrals for people to access their services for patients, their loved ones, carers and the bereaved.

It began its life in Droitwich before moving to Rose Hill, a Georgian house in Worcester, in 1991.

Rose Hill was officially opened by Diana, Princess of Wales, the following year.
