Worcester's Wayne Smith to run London Marathon for Make a Wish

Droitwich Editorial 21st Apr, 2018   0

SERVING soldier Wayne Smith from Worcester will be raising funds for Make a Wish to help make wishes come true for critically ill children.

He chose the charity as his girlfriend and him have applied for her daughter Lily-Mai to meet Justin Fletcher.

The wish has been granted for Lily-Mai, who is seven and attends Bromsgrove’s Chadsgrove School, and she will meet ‘Mr Tumble’ at the end of the month.

Wayne, who hopes to raise £2,000 for the cause, said: “She loves nothing more than watching Mr Tumble all day.

“Lily-Mai has a terminal diagnosis so every day is both a blessing and a battle.

“In the year or so that Lily-Mai has been in my life I have seen her slowly deteriorate, she has less energy and is less mobile as time goes by.

“Luckily she has a fantastic mum, my girlfriend Liz, and a big brother and sister, Blake and Chloe who all enjoy entertaining Lily-Mai which is sometimes a difficult job especially as she becomes tired quite quickly these days.

“Also putting in a lot of hard work is Ron, Lily-Mai’s grandad, whom comes to the house everyday to see Lily-Mai and to help with the running of the house to give the rest of the family a little bit of a rest.”

Wayne, who is from Worcester, also had his legs waxed in The Arches Bar in Bewdley on March 25 which helped raise an extra £250 towards my target.

“I am now looking for the help of kind people and any companies willing to donate, to help me reach my goal and to help change the lives of as many children as possible.
