MEMBERS of the Worcestershire Young Carers enjoyed a satirical adventure of a lifetime when they took off for Banksy’s Dismaland in Weston-Super-Mare.

The charity supports children and young adults who help look after an ill or disabled parent, guardian or sibling at home.

The trip to Dismaland marked an exciting finale to a fun-filled programme of activities enjoyed by youngsters over the summer.

Keyworkers Sue Eltagouri and Vicky Parker accompanied eight young carers on the action-packed day.

Much to their amusement, they were greeted by sullen park staff and frisked by airport-style security guards.

They were also treated to artwork by over 50 global artists, including Cinderella’s Castle, Mini Gulf and Water Cannon Creek.

Lauren aged 20 said, “The best thing about the day was Dismaland. Banksy is a good bean!’

Meanwhile, 15-year-old Matt thoroughly enjoyed his attempts at making staff laugh.

Meg (17) said: “The best thing was getting stopped by Dismaland security, taking selfies with amusement park staff and having a laugh with other young carers.”

Young Carers keyworker, Vicky said: “The whole day was just great.

“We were really lucky to visit Banksy’s masterpiece ‘Dismaland’, having obtained tickets just the day before.

“The whole experience was amazing and hilariously funny whilst being thought-provoking.

“The young carers definitely appreciated the humour and mickey-take of society.

“Hopefully, memories of this day will stay with them for years to come.”

Formerly known as Youth Support Services (YSS), Worcestershire Young Carers has been providing community-based support services to vulnerable people who face difficult life challenges for 25 years.

The project currently supports 251 young people aged between seven and 25.

Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal, became patron of YSS in 2008 and this year attended the Worcestershire Young Carers Conference at Hartlebury.
