LITERARY characters were brought to life by Witton Middle School pupils and staff on World Book Day.

The annual event, aimed at encouraging children to read, is always a highlight in the school calendar.

A Witton Middle spokesperson said: “It’s a time for us to celebrate the wonderful world of books.

“Pupils and staff celebrated World Book Day with costumes galore – what a creative bunch they are!”

The main event was a sneak preview of the school’s eagerly awaited ‘Pantastic’ production which gave the children the inspiration for the book-themed lessons and activities throughout the day.

Children also took part in a book swap, and a variety of author-based activities.

The spokesperson added: “Thank you to all the pupils and staff for their efforts to make the day so worthwhile.”
