THE ARMED Forces Day flag is flying proudly outside Wychavon District Council’s headquarters to pay tribute to UK servicemen and women past and present.

It was hoisted on Monday ahead of Armed Forces Day on Saturday, June 27.

It was a low key ceremony due to the Covid-19 restrictions but signalled the start of a week of celebrations.

Coun Smith said: “Sadly due to the Coronavirus pandemic we were not able to hold our usual ceremony but we still wanted to show our support for the armed services and to give a morale boost to our troops working around the world providing security, promoting peace and fighting terrorism.

“They have also played an important part in the strategic planning that has gone into our response to the Covid-19 pandemic. We also pay tribute to the support and sacrifices made by their families.”
