A FUND of £30,000 is available for town and parish councils to organise celebrations for the Coronation of King Charles III, writes Poppy Chambers.
And Wychavon District Council, which has put up the cash, is also scrapping fees for road closure notices over that bank holiday weekend.
Official events will begin on May 6 with the crowning of His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort. This will be followed by the Sunday community Coronation Big Lunch.
Rob Adams, Wychavon District Council’s executive board member for stronger communities, culture and sport, said the Coronation Weekend would be a wonderful opportunity for friends, families and communities to spend some quality time together.
He added “After the success of our Platinum Jubilee fund last year which gave £15,000 to town and parish councils to support those celebrations, we’ve decided to double the support on offer.”
Wychavon will directly contact town and parish councils to inform them on how they can access the cash which can be used to host community events such as street parties over the coronation weekend.
The public are also being urged to contact Wychavon and register their community projects and organisations for The Big Help Out event on May 8 and they can take part by volunteering or joining the projects to support the local area.
Coun Rob Adams added it would give people a chance to volunteer with a variety of the many groups within Wychavon district.
