Wychavon re-pledges commitment to Armed Forces Covenant with re-signing

WYCHAVON has again pledged its commitment to support the UK’s military veterans and their families by re-signing The Armed Forces Covenant.

The covenant is a promise to Regular and Reserve ex-service personnel that their service to their country will not leave them disadvantaged when accessing public or commercial services.

It also places a duty on organisations to give special consideration to the needs of injured veterans or bereaved armed forces families.

The re-signing took place at St Helena Court on the former Norton Barracks site to mark the 10th anniversary of its opening.

It was a joint project between Wychavon and Rooftop Housing Group to build ten, energy-efficient affordable homes dedicated to supporting ex-servicemen and women and their families.

It cost just under £1.3 million and was part of both organisations’ commitment to delivering the aims of the covenant.

Councillor Rob Adams, Wychavon’s armed forces champion, said: “I was proud to re-sign the Armed Forces Covenant on behalf of Wychavon and recommit ourselves to doing everything we can to look after our ex-servicemen and women.

“We don’t want any veteran to feel alone when we, and the partners we work with, can help in so many different ways, it’s just a matter of asking.

“If you’re a veteran – whether you have served one day or 50 years in the forces – and you need support, please reach out and ask, we’re here to help.”

Rebecca Pitt, executive director – investment for Rooftop Housing Group, said:

“We are proud to support those who serve or have served in the armed forces, and their families.

“As a housing association, we will continue to work with local authority partners and other agencies to provide accommodation for veterans and promote greater understanding across our organisation and external partners about the levels of support required and the additional benefits or services which may be available to veterans.”
