WYCHAVON paid tribute to Britain’s armed forces by holding a ‘flying the flag’ ceremony at Pershore’s Civic Centre on Monday.

The flag flying was conducted ahead of Saturday’s Armed Forces Day.

Wychavon District Council chairman Coun Alex Sinton led the tributes to the armed forces including those on active service, reservists and cadets.

He then thanked the families of those who have served for supporting their loved ones, before praising the Royal British Legion.

Rev Laura Handy then led prayers for those on active service to return home safely and peacefully, and a two-minute silence was held prior to the flag-raising.

Coun Sinton said: “In this country, the respect we have for our Armed Forces is deeply embedded in our national makeup.

“What all of us recognise and what links the generations is that those who serve to stand for honour and sacrifice and put themselves after others and their country before self.

“This is the occasion when the rest of us can show our patriotic support for all these heroes and their outstanding contribution to this country.”
