Wychavon to host second wellbeing event for lone-working men in rural industries

A SECOND mental health workshop to support the wellbeing of lone-working men in farming and other rural industries will be held by Wychavon later this month.

Organised as part of the Wellbeing in Wychavon community scheme and delivered by We Are Farming Minds (a MIND Herefordshire project), the session builds on the work of a similar event earlier this month.

The free workshop is designed to raise awareness of the mental health challenges which are often faced by those working in isolated rural settings.

It will offer practical tools to help recognise signs of distress, manage wellbeing, and connect with local support networks. The event takes place on Friday, July 18 (12 - 3pm) at Whittington Community Hall on Church Lane.

Employers and colleagues connected to the rural workforce, or in lone-working roles, as well as those living in rural communities are encouraged to attend.

This way, communities can better understand how to support those at risk whilst also being proactive about championing good mental health to begin with.

Councillor Dan Birch, Wychavon’s executive board member for health and wellbeing, said: “We want to reach those in our rural communities who may be struggling in silence.

“These workshops are about opening up conversations, offering support and ensuring no one feels alone.”

The event, which follows a similar workshop in Honeybourne, supports Wychavon’s commitment to promoting mental wellbeing through our We Are Wychavon Plan.

Coun Rob Adams, ward councillor for Drakes Broughton, Norton & Whittington and portfolio holder for strong communities, culture and sport, said: “This is an important opportunity to recognise and understand mental health issues in rural communities and how support can be provided to those who need it.”

Free refreshments will be provided. Booking is encouraged to help with planning.
