Wychavon's parks retain coveted Green Flag status

Droitwich Editorial 13th Aug, 2024   0

WYCHAVON’S parks have once again been recognised among the best in the country after retaining Green Flag Award status.

Green Flags have been hoisted above all of Wychavon’s main parks in recognition of their quality.

Among those commended is Abbey Park, Workman and Waterside Gardens in Evesham, Vines Park, Lido Park, St Peters Fields in Droitwich Spa, and Abbey Park in Pershore.

Droitwich Community Woods, which Wychavon manages along with Worcestershire Wildlife Trust, has also received the award for the fifth year in a row.

Since 2020, Wychavon has invested £1.5 million in improving its parks and open spaces.

Improvements include new water plays at Abbey Park in Evesham and Pershore, a pump track and new play equipment at Charity Brook Park, and upgrades to footpaths and a resurfacing of the five-a-side football pitch in Droitwich Spa’s Lido Park.

Councillor Beverley Hardman, executive board member for boosting natural capital on Wychavon District Council, said: “To secure Green Flag status year-after-year is an incredible achievement and a testament to the hard work of our parks team, contractors Continental Landscapes and Smart Cut and our partner Worcestershire Wildlife Trust.

“We know how much our residents value our parks and open spaces as places to play, socialise and boost their mental and physical health, which is why we continue to invest in maintaining and improving them.”

The Green Flag Awards are run by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy. They recognise well-managed parks and green spaces. A Green Flag is valid for one year only, and if a park or green space is to maintain its status, it must reapply annually.
