Wychbold writer pens new short story collection

A WYCHBOLD author has penned a new collection of short stories exploring the human condition from childhood to old age.

Philip Parrish, aged 46, has written Exiles Incorporated – a collection of twelve short stories spanning six continents, fifteen countries and more than 2,500 years of history.

The dozen tales encompass ancient Greece to medieval Cairo, first-century Peru to the Belgian Congo, shogunate Japan to 1960s Los Angeles, and ninth-century Rome to modern-day Hereford.

The self-published collection launched in paperback and e-book on June 21.

“I love history and have always wanted to write a collection of stories that combined different time periods and countries, focusing on characters at different stages of their lives,” said Philip, who lives on Worcester Road in Wychbold with his wife and daughter.

“Exiles Incorporated offersa diverse mix of genres, ranging from coming-of-age stories to mystery tales, fantasy to full-blooded horror. But at its heart, the book explores human loneliness across the ages and people’s capacity for good and evil.”

Aimed at mature, intelligent lovers of historical literary fiction, Exiles Incorporated is Philip’s third book in five years.

His first novel, Game of Life, is a claustrophobic family drama influenced by the Covid-19 lockdown and the #MeToo movement. It released in 2021.

This was followed by The Bleeding Horizon in 2023, a sci-fi fantasy political thriller inspired by the dangers of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the world’s social and political turmoil.

Exiles Incorporated is available to buy on Apple, Amazon and Google Play as an e-book, plus on Amazon and Barnes and Noble as a paperback.
