YOUNGSTERS who want to get creative and show off their practical sides over half-term can take part in a new game which challenges them to ‘Build a Canal’.

The game has been launched by the Canal & River Trust on its explorers education website.

Amidst scenery of prancing pack horses, mooing cows and shovel-digging navvies, youngsters can get their virtual hands dirty by becoming a canal engineer.

It is designed for youngsters aged between seven and 11 and they will learn while they play as the animated storyline is packed full of interesting and historical facts and figures, as well as colourful moving graphics featuring animals, people, boats and buildings.

It has been created to encourage children to engage more with their local waterways.

As well as being more than 200 years old, the canal network is also a haven for wildlife and the natural world.

Visit www.canalriverexplorers.org.uk to play the game.
