DROITWICH Spa Cricket Club maintained their 100% start to the Worcestershire Indoor League at the weekend, when they won by 27 runs against Barnards Green.
The opposition were disadvantaged by having one less fielder in their side, allowing Spa to carve them open and put together a score of 146 for 5.
Martyn Davies was first to go with 27 runs, whilst Max Young recorded 36 not out – followed by 28 and 24 runs from Stuart Bryan and Matt Gurr respectively as Droitwich put Barnards Green to the sword.
Josh Blunt would total a respectable 27 runs from his three overs bowled.
Green would respond promisingly as they looked to mount a challenge to Droitwich’s score.
But those hopes were ultimately dashed when three wickets in quick succession half-way through the innings damaged their hopes.
Ryan Tongue was the bright spark for Green, launching ball after ball into the boundary to finish with 82 not out, from his side’s total of 119-3.
Davies recorded the best economy rate of Spa’s bowlers with only 24 runs conceded from three overs, but Gurr’s deliveries were the highlight for Spa as he consistently bowled with excellent technique.
The next match for Droitwich can be viewed as something of a title decider, when they take on the unbeaten Cutnall Green on 3rd March.
