Bellingham savours top goalscorer honour

Droitwich Editorial 25th Jun, 2014 Updated: 17th Oct, 2016   0

BROMSGROVE Sporting hot-shot Mark Bellingham was presented with his trophy for being the Midland Combination League’s leading scorer in 2013/14 with 33 goals in just 25 matches.

In addition, Bellingham scored another ten goals in as many cup matches.

The award was picked up at the Midland Combination annual awards ceremony earlier this month and re-presented to Bellingham by manager Adrian Mander before everybody sat down to watch England’s World Cup match against Uruguay.

Meanwhile, work on the ground is going well with the pitch re-seeded and expected to be ready for the end of July when Sporting play their first friendly.

A fair bit of maintenance and painting has been done but more work is still outstanding. Anybody interested in helping should call the ground on 01527 876949.

Boss Mander has been speaking to a number of players both from last season and potential new players, but cannot start the registration process until July 1 and then it takes a few weeks to assemble a squad.

However, news will be released once players have confirmed they will definitely be playing for the club next season. Pre-season training starts next week.

Sporting’s opponents in the newly-formed Midland Football League Division One have been revealed, although the FA is still to decide which one of Highgate United or Rocester will be joining the division.

The clubs so far are: Alvis Sporting Club, Atherstone Town, Blackwood, Bolehall Swifts, Cadbury Athletic, Coventry Copsewood, Heather St John’s, Hinckley AFC, Lichfield City, Littleton, Nuneaton Griff, Pelsall Villa, Pershore Town, Pilkington XXX, Racing Club Warwick, Southam United, Stafford Town, Studley, Uttoxeter Town.
