BOXING - O'Toole on 'cloud nine' after first professional win

SIAN O’Toole admits she is still on ‘cloud nine’ after tasting victory on her professional debut at The Eastside Rooms in Birmingham.

The Droitwich boxer secured a 60-54 points win against Amy Greatorex after dominating all six rounds of the super-featherweight bout.

And O’Toole already has a second pro fight lined up for Friday, October 20 at the Holiday Inn in Birmingham City centre.

O’Toole said: “I’m still on cloud nine a little bit, I can still describe it as the best night of my life.

“It was absolutely incredible, it was everything I imagined it to be and more, I was really proud of my performance, everything went really smoothly.

“It was totally different [to amateur boxing], I felt like I was starting all over again in a good way. I’d become stagnant with the amateurs, this was a completely different ball game.

“I’ve got so much to learn, even the build up was different, the gloves are lighter, the power I can produce is different.

“I was a little bit nervous about fighting without a head guard but it was amazing.

“You have to time your shots and really try and hurt them, in the amateurs I was very much hit and move and it was more about point scoring.

“It was completely different to what I’ve learnt before but I executed my gameplan perfectly, I dug deep and was really focused.

“I was told just two days later that I’m fighting again in six weeks.”

The featherweight fights out of Black Country Boxing, under the guidance of her coach Errol Johnson, while former British and Commonwealth welterweight champion and partner Frankie Gavin acts as a mentor.

O’Toole teaches maths at Bishop Perowne CofE College in Worcester alongside her pro career and is open to sponsorship opportunities.

Sponsorship would help O’Toole with her kit, training, travel and medical costs.

A number of sponsorship packages are available.
