BOXING - O'Toole set for first professional fight with world title in her sights

SIAN O’Toole, a three-time national boxing champion at amateur level, is ready to launch her pro career next month and has set her sights on winning a world title.

The 24-year-old, from Droitwich, is set to make her professional debut on Saturday, September 2 at The Eastside Rooms in Birmingham against a yet to be named opponent.

O’Toole, Droitwich’s first-ever professional women’s boxer, feels it is the perfect time for her to turn pro after a decade in the amateur ranks.

And the mother of one, who won gold in her first tournament following the birth of her son Michael in November 2021, is more determined than ever to achieve her world title dream.

O’Toole said: “I’ve been boxing for 10 years, I’ve won some big accolades in the amateur game, I’m coming into my prime which is why I need to turn pro.

“As an amateur, the best you can achieve is the Olympics but for me, as a mum, I just couldn’t sacrifice living away from my family.

“There’s no ambition there anymore, turning pro allows me to be the mum I want to be and the athlete I want to be.

“Being a good mum is at the heart of my decision, I want to be as present in Michael’s life as I can while I achieve my dream and he can watch me do it, it’s about doing it for him.

“I believe I can be world champion, it’s not going to be a short ride but I believe I am capable of that.

“I need a good few fights and hopefully an opportunity to have Commonwealth and European title fights and earn that right to eventually fight for a world title.”

As an amateur, OToole boxed for Great Britain at European and World Championships and also spent several years training at Droitwich Amateur Boxing Club.

The featherweight fights out of Black Country Boxing, under the guidance of her coach Errol Johnson, while former British and Commonwealth welterweight champion and partner Frankie Gavin acts as a mentor.

O’Toole teaches maths at Bishop Perowne CofE College in Worcester alongside her ambition to turn pro and is open to sponsorship opportunities.

Sponsorship would help O’Toole with her kit, training, travel and medical costs.

A number of sponsorship packages are available.
