CAROLINE Siddell netted four goals to help Droitwich Spa Ladies romp to a 6-1 victory over Worcester 3s to maintain the pressure on league leaders Stourport Ladies 4s.

Second place Spa extended their unbeaten season to 12 games and sit just four points off the leaders Stourport in the Worcestershire Hockey League Division Two table as goals from captain Lucy Hine and Hannah Lee and four from Siddell secured a routine victory.

Spa started the game slowly, giving the ball awat too easily in the opening period but the ladies soon settled as Hine dispatched a powerful low shot to put her side 1-0 up.

Soon after, Spa doubled their advantage as Lee found herself in the right place, at the right time to nutmeg the Worcester keeper.

After the interval, Worcester were fastest out the traps and pulled one back early doors but despite the setback, Spa’s confidence grew as the ladies pushed higher up the pitch.

Spa continued to attack the wings allowing Sidell, with her poaching instinct, to net four times, bringing the team’s total goals for this season to 54, conceding 13.

The Spa ladies face a return fixture this weekend against Worcester 3s.

BROMSGROVE Ladies 4s enjoyed derby delight as they secured a narrow 1-0 victory over rivals Spa ladies 2s.

The experienced defence of Spa proved to be a tough nut to crack as they thwarted several of Bromsgrove’s attacks, while using their own pace up front to play on the counter-attack.

However, goal scoring opportunities were wasted as Sam Wakelam and Gabriella Prendiville could not fire home.

This came back to haunt Spa as 10 minutes from time, they were dealt a sucker-punch as Bromsgrove took the lead to snatch the win.

STREETLY Mens 2s end Spa Men 2s’ good start to 2016 with a 3-1 victory in the West Midlands 2 league.

Despite Spa opening the scoring through David Hindle, fourth placed Streetly asserted their dominance and netted three times to claim the points.

Spa were left frustrated following several missed chances to reduce the deficit.

DROITWICH Mens 3s faired better as they secured a 3-0 victory over Streetly 3s.

Spa started brightly with Joe Brett linking up the play well and switched the ball across to Zak Allsop who set up Tommy Ross who was unlucky not to have scored.

Streetly’s skilful midfield released their young attacking players but Spa stood strong to thwart their counter-attacks.

However, three quick-fire goals ensured Spa took a half-time lead of 3-0 which they held on to at the final whistle, a result which sees Spa claim their fourth win of the campaign.
